Across the country, communities will gather for local watch parties to sing along, connect with neighbors, and take meaningful action together. The event will center around an inspiring concert live-streamed from New York City featuring Jane Fonda, Patti Smith, Bette Midler, Rufus Wainwright, Singing Resistance, Broadway Inspirational Voices, Lily Gladstone, Julia Roberts and Joy Reid, celebrating the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment—including the freedoms of speech, religion, press, assembly, and protest—and the people power that protects them. We’re speaking out during June’s city council public comment sessions (June 8th & 22nd, 7:30 pm at City Hall). Come and support climate action! There’s been progress, but we’ve only reduced our community GHGs by 11%, falling very short of the 50% by 2030 goal set forth in the Climate Recovery Ordinance (2014). Want to learn more about the city’s Climate Action Plan and track their progress?  The new Climate Action Plan 2.0 2025 Annual Report and the city’s Climate Dashboard are current and illustrate progress, including the expansion of the RidersEd program, a 1,200% increase in EVs registered since 2017, 5.3 MWs of solar installed on homes since 2021 (powering about 580 homes), and 53% recycling or recovery of waste through composting and recycling. There is still MUCH progress to be made and 350 Eugene, along with partners in the Fossil Free Eugene Coalition, are working with officials and staff to take even more meaningful and swift action. (The Eugene Clean Energy Fund will be an important way to fund the projects we need. More on that soon.) At the federal level, the Trump administration has proposed rescinding the popular 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which protects almost 2-million acres of Oregon’s public forests and 45-million acres nationwide from the scourge of logging and road building. Thanks for attending our two Roadless Rule educational / action events recently cohosted with allies and friends at Gratitude Brewing and the Art House Mini-Film Fest. You’ve written scores of postcards, sent letters and emails. We’re still standing by to send in massive official comments. Meanwhile, we’re also waiting for the official comment period for the new Bureau of Land Management (“Revised’) Logging Plan for Western forests to drop. Maybe in July. Urge Oregon’s Congressmembers to Protect Western Oregon Forests – Oppose HR 7603 — HR 7603, or the "O&C Removal Act of 2026," would make timber production to fund county governments the primary purpose of public forests governed by the original O&C Act – the lands BLM manages. This bill would prioritize maximizing logging above all other values, weakening safeguards for fish and wildlife, shrinking stream protections, and opening vast areas of public forest to the kind of large-scale clearcutting that pushed species like coho salmon and northern spotted owls toward extinction in the first place. Rebecca Solnit shared this and a 2009 quote from Julian in her 5/25/26 Meditations in an Emergency: “No offering is too small. No stone unneeded. All of us – whether we choose to become human rights lawyers or corporate counsel, or choose never to practice law at all but instead become professors or entrepreneurs or disappear anonymous among the poor or stay at home and raise bright, delicious children – all of us, without exception, are qualified to participate in the rescue of the world.” Let’s be fearlessly committed.
