Solar energy is now the cheapest and fastest growing source of power on the planet and is increasingly accessible to help consumers transition off planet-heating fossil fuels... And it’s happening despite the administration’s roadblocks. Did you know? The 7 most exciting clean energy facts! 1. 90% of the new power being installed worldwide is solar. 2. Power. Millions of people are getting electricity for the first time thanks to the sun, or shutting off dirty generators forever. 3. Clean energy now employs more people than fossil fuels - over 36 million jobs globally are connected to the clean energy economy. 4. Solar and wind are now more affordable than ever. 95% of the new wind and solar projects deliver power cheaper than gas or coal ever could. 5. Coal and gas plants are turning off because of renewables. European coal consumption has dropped by 61% thanks to the growth of wind and solar. 6. Clean energy is 3 times more efficient than fossil fuels. In fact, coal and gas power plants waste $4.5 trillion worth of energy in heat, transportation, leaks, and other pollution. 7. Whole economies are now relying on solar. California was powered by 100% clean energy for more than 100 days this year, and solar was the biggest source of energy in the EU last month. One problem… Not enough people know that clean energy is working, especially politicians who are afraid to fight for solar and wind because they don’t realize how unstoppable the movement is. That is why in 32 states in over 200 cities, we’re coming together to demonstrate & celebrate the transformative power of the sun! Everybody, everywhere… New ideas, projects, large & small. Come, have fun, bring the kids, meet your peeps. There’s a place for you in the revolution. "We really could get it right — we have the clean energy technology we need, and what we need now is the human energy to make it happen despite the obstruction of Big Oil. That's what Sun Day is about, harnessing photons to power our lives." Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, Marine Biologist and author of What If We Get It Right. SAVE THE FORESTSFight Trump’s Roadless Rule Rescission Tuesday, Sept. 9th 6 - 8:00 pm - Comment Writing Party at the Mahonia Community Room (120 Shelton McMurphey Blvd. Suite 230). The Trump administration has officially declared its intent to eliminate the Roadless Rule, a bedrock conservation policy that protects nearly two million acres of Oregon’s public forests and nearly 60 million acres nationwide from logging, road building, and destructive development. This rule, adopted in 2001, preserves some of the last swaths of public lands as a home for wildlife, a haven for recreation, and a lasting legacy for current and future generations. The Roadless Rule rollback has a ridiculously short public comment window: it opened on Aug. 29th and will close on Sept. 19th. WE NEED YOU NOW! Come to the Public Comment Writing Party! Bring your laptop. Light refreshments and pizza will be provided, and feel free to bring something to share. Let’s swamp the US Forest Service comment portal! Experts will be on hand. Stay for all or part. Register here today! Can't make the Comment Writing Party? Here's a link to a Google doc with Earth Justice's background and suggested comment topics, with the USFS's comment portal. Thanks for stepping up for this critical effort! TWO QUICK ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY FROM HOMEOregon must meet its clean energy goals! We need an actionable plan. The time is now to ensure that our state prioritizes meeting Oregon’s clean energy goals, while also keeping energy bills affordable and connectivity reliable. As utility bills spike and heat waves, wildfires, and extreme weather grow more intense, it’s critical that Oregon take action to ensure that communities are healthy and resilient. The Oregon Energy Strategy is a crucial opportunity for the state to meet our 100% clean energy goals and make our communities safer by planning for and implementing consistent and reliable energy systems. Here’s Rogue Climate’s testimony toolkit port to help you through the entire process of writing and submitting your comment. (Open through Sept. 22nd.) It’s up to us to hold our state accountable in ensuring that our communities thrive far into the future. Thank you. Not another Factory Farm Expansion in Oregon!
