No Kings 3 - Springfield Eugene Building bridges & growing our movement We are at a critical time in our nation’s history and it’s imperative that the PEOPLE take to the streets to demand a stop to the authoritarian corruption, violence, repression and lies. It was a show of power and a feat of talented organizing with 8 million people in the streets at over 3,300 protests on seven continents… With 5,000 people turning out at Springfield City Hall on March 28th! We’re growing and building momentum! Huge thanks to the organizations within ACES (Activist Coalition Eugene Springfield) and SAfER (Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect) for planning an impactful, safe and fun event to build power and relationships in the greater Springfield-Eugene area. Special thanks to the 350 Eugene Artivist Team, logistics wranglers, and for those who marched as the “Climate Community.” Most especially… THANK YOU FOR TURNING OUT! More new and younger people showed up than ever! And we’re just getting started. Here’s Todd Boyle’s one-hour video of the inspiring rally and speeches. We see the devastating effects of planetary overheating with our own eyes and it is intensifying political chaos, uncertainty and instability. Despite the extraordinary work of countless climate activists at every level, it’s an uphill battle to transform this suicidal fossil fuel juggernaut into the renewable, just energy economy at the speed and scale that physics demands. But we can not, and will not stop. So… This year, informed through the eyes of filmmakers, we are turning to each other to look at how we personally and collectively are navigating this critical moment. Join us for the Climate Future Film Festival at the Art House on Thursday, April 16th at 6:30 pm Prior to the films there will be a short moderated panel with young people representing their unique perspectives as a climate activist, environmental artist and mental health professional. Then for 2 hours we’ll further explore the artistic and human response to climate change through the lens of ten selected short films. Mingling, discussion and resources following the film. Tickets for $5 at https://www.encirclefilms.org/. The Eugene Clean Energy Fund (ECEF) is Kicking Off!In November, voters will have a chance to make Eugene a leader in the transition to clean energy! ECEF is a bold, community-driven initiative that turns corporate profits into community power. Through a modest 2% fee on large corporations operating in Eugene – those earning $1 billion or more nationally (think Target, Walmart, etc.) – ECEF will fund clean energy projects and build climate resilience across our entire city. It’s estimated that this will raise $15 million for just transition, job training, and community resilience projects! It’s practical, it’s equitable, and it’s long overdue. Stop in before heading over to the Climate Future Film Festival to find out how you can help advance this innovative climate policy right now! Forest Defense is Climate DefenseWhen our forests are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back! Public Lands, Public Voices: A night of trivia, inspiration, and action for roadless forests! Trump is trying to repeal the Roadless Rule, which was created in 2001 to protect 58.5 million acres of National Forest Land across the country, 2 million acres here in Oregon. (At the time, the Forest Service held 600 public hearings and collected 1.6 million public comments!) This time the public is being shut out of the process entirely! So… across Oregon we’re joining with allies to hold our own public meetings to have some fun and take action. In Eugene What: Trivia, inspiration and action for roadless forests! (No host drinks & food.) When: Tuesday, April 14th from 5 to 7:00 pm. Where: Gratitude Brewing at 5410 E Eight Ave., Eugene RSVP here and get a free “Wild About Roadless Forests” t-shirt (limited supply, first come, first served). These are public lands and the public WILL HAVE A VOICE. Stand up, speak out! Take action today: Tell your representatives in the US Congress to protect Roadless areas! Send an email to Senators Merkley & Wyden, Rep. Hoyle and the USDA Secretary, Brooke Rollins to protect Oregon's 2 million acres TODAY! Earth Day Street Messaging Fight to Protect Our Natural Forests! When: Wednesday, April 22nd from 2:00 to 3:30 pm Where: 18th & Chambers St., Eugene (on the edge of Westmoreland Park) What: Fresh air, friendly conversation with neighbors, hang out with your peeps! Pizza party to follow at Hey Neighbor! (The pizza’s on us!) Get Out the VoteEmail Deb at [email protected] and you’ll be contacted. Thank you! There’s no climate action without a functioning democracy! That’s why 350 Eugene is committed to getting voters out in non-partisan races to support progressive policies by writing postcards to voters. Voting may be only one way citizens can influence the government, but it’s a very important way and we NEED TO HAVE MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION. Statistics show postcards increase voter turnout. The majority of Americans want common sense policies that protect our environment and communities. Email Deb at [email protected] and you’ll be contacted. Thank you! Breathe You read to the end of this newsletter. Good for you! You’re not alone if you’re feeling overwhelmed. One person can’t move the whole mountain. But one person can pick up one rock each time they walk by. If you can, come to the Film Festival, take the actions in this email, then have a cup of tea with a friend. We’re all in this together.
