Defend Democracy Everywhere

This is the moment to flex our collective civic muscle.
Most Americans know our democracy is in trouble. Our most marginalized neighbors are terrified. Maybe some are confused and don’t know what to do. But YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO because you care and live in a community where people are taking action, today and every day!
Research shows that people don’t step up to take action until they’re asked.
This is the ASK.
Why now? Apart from Trump forcing his DOJ to launch prosecution of James Comey and signing an executive memo directing the full power of the US government to shut down political opposition (that’s us)...
His Secretary of the “War Department” summoned the highest echelon military commanders to a meeting in Quantico, VA. This mass recall of military leadership is right out of the authoritarian playbook, a strategically dangerous move, and one that aims to bring the apolitical military to heel, those who are bound to uphold the Constitution, not a party or administration.
We can not let this stand.

Take Action - Three Things

Are you ready to fight back right? Here’s what that looks like:
FIRST… Get the attention of your U.S. Senators and Representatives re: the military meet-up! Make them feel the pressure!
  • Visit their offices
  • Call their phones
  • Leave messages
  • Send emails
  • Write letters / send postcards
  • Attend town halls
Congress has the constitutional authority
(and responsibility) to oversee military leadership.
  • Demand full transparency.
  • Demand immediate oversight hearings before and after the meeting.
  • Insist they demand a public explanation for the purpose, agenda, and outcomes of this high level military gathering.
Short and sweet. You can do this today. Thank you.

We cannot allow America’s military to be transformed into a stage prop for an authoritarian regime clinging to power.

We Did This

Saving our Forests - Saving the 2001 Roadless Rule
The nationwide Forest-Climate Coalition, along with allies from the outdoor recreation and outdoor sporting communities, generated nearly 500,000 public comments during the ridiculously short three-week comment period. Tribal leaders and NGOs, elected officials and other decision-makers, social media content creators and other allies generated at least 100,000 additional comments, for a total of more than 600,000!
That’s incredible engagement & shows how much people
care about our forests!
Initial analysis showed that 99% of the comments were in opposition to rolling back the Roadless Rule. We’ll keep you posted on the Forest Service's analysis of the comments. Good job, everyone! Thanks for your strong engagement.
YOU WERE THERE - SUN DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS
THANKS FOR COMING!
Picture
From the crazy fun bluegrass music, to the magnificent EV display, Rabbi Ruhi’s inspiring message and “The Sun Is Rising and So Are We” song, the informative Teach-in presentations, wonderful ally organizations tabling, to the Raging Grannies and Hula dancers… The collaboration with the terrific folks in Third Act Oregon to plan and hold SUN Day was wonderful from start to finish. Maybe we’ll see you again next year!
The Sun Power Revolution is underway,
and it’s getting stronger every day!
It’s unstoppable!
(Photo credit: Robert Scherle. Here’s the entire set of wonderful photos.)
IT’S UP TO US
Fighting back means more than anger. It means pressure, oversight,
organizing, vigilance, and courage.
Send the emails, make the calls, show up in the streets. Thank you!

The solar revolution is here!
The momentum is gigantic and we demand MORE!
When:  Sunday, Sept. 21st from 12:30 to 3:00 pm
Where: Campbell Community Center, 155 High Street, Eugene
What:   A celebration of solar power & the accelerated transition off fossil fuels
Free and open to the public

SUN Day is a national day of action to accelerate and celebrate the clean energy revolution. On Sept. 21st, the Fall Equinox, people across the country will showcase solar installations, electric homes and businesses, vehicles running on clean power, and share innovative energy resilience projects.

350 Eugene and Third Act Oregon Eugene are co-hosting an action-oriented, fun, informative & family-friendly event with music, climate leader keynotes, rotating 15-minute Teach-ins on solar & democracy, music, art, EV and E-bike demonstrations, organizational tables, and closing with a march with banners to the Ferry Street Bridge! We are grounding the event in this current time of authoritarian takeover and its threat to our democracy,

The 350 Eugene homepage has details on Teach-in topics and more. Please register today (optional).

As we know, Solar and wind energy are no longer “alternative” fuels. Solar energy is now the cheapest and fastest growing source of power on the planet and is increasingly accessible to help consumers transition off planet-heating fossil fuels... And it’s happening despite the administration’s roadblocks.
Picture
Picture
Did you know?
The 7 most exciting clean energy facts!

1. 90% of the new power being installed worldwide is solar.

2. Power. Millions of people are getting electricity for the first time thanks to the sun, or shutting off dirty generators forever.

3. Clean energy now employs more people than fossil fuels - over 36 million jobs globally are connected to the clean energy economy.

4. Solar and wind are now more affordable than ever. 95% of the new wind and solar projects deliver power cheaper than gas or coal ever could.

5. Coal and gas plants are turning off because of renewables. European coal consumption has dropped by 61% thanks to the growth of wind and solar.

6. Clean energy is 3 times more efficient than fossil fuels. In fact, coal and gas power plants waste $4.5 trillion worth of energy in heat, transportation, leaks, and other pollution.

7. Whole economies are now relying on solar. California was powered by 100% clean energy for more than 100 days this year, and solar was the biggest source of energy in the EU last month.
One problem…
Not enough people know that clean energy is working, especially politicians who are afraid to fight for solar and wind because they don’t realize how unstoppable the movement is.

That is why in 32 states in over 200 cities, we’re coming
together to demonstrate & celebrate the
transformative power of the sun!

Everybody, everywhere… New ideas, projects, large & small.
Come, have fun, bring the kids, meet your peeps. There’s a place for you in the revolution.

"We really could get it right — we have the clean energy technology we need, and what we need now is the human energy to make it happen despite the obstruction of Big Oil. That's what Sun Day is about, harnessing photons to power our lives."

Fight Trump’s Roadless Rule Rescission
Tuesday, Sept. 9th 6 - 8:00 pm - Comment Writing Party at the Mahonia Community Room (120 Shelton McMurphey Blvd. Suite 230).

The Trump administration has officially declared its intent to eliminate the Roadless Rule, a bedrock conservation policy that protects nearly two million acres of Oregon’s public forests and nearly 60 million acres nationwide from logging, road building, and destructive development. This rule, adopted in 2001, preserves some of the last swaths of public lands as a home for wildlife, a haven for recreation, and a lasting legacy for current and future generations.

The Roadless Rule rollback has a ridiculously short public comment window: it opened on Aug. 29th and will close on Sept. 19th. WE NEED YOU NOW!

Come to the Public Comment Writing Party! Bring your laptop. Light refreshments and pizza will be provided, and feel free to bring something to share.

Let’s swamp the US Forest Service comment portal! Experts will be on hand. Stay for all or part. Register here today!

Can't make the Comment Writing Party? Here's a link to a Google doc with Earth Justice's background and suggested comment topics, with the USFS's comment portal. Thanks for stepping up for this critical effort!

TWO QUICK ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY FROM HOME

Oregon must meet its clean energy goals! We need an actionable plan.

The time is now to ensure that our state prioritizes meeting Oregon’s clean energy goals, while also keeping energy bills affordable and connectivity reliable.

As utility bills spike and heat waves, wildfires, and extreme weather grow more intense, it’s critical that Oregon take action to ensure that communities are healthy and resilient. The Oregon Energy Strategy is a crucial opportunity for the state to meet our 100% clean energy goals and make our communities safer by planning for and implementing consistent and reliable energy systems.
Will you submit a comment to the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) to ask them to design an actionable pathway to meet the state’s 100% clean energy goals, keep false solutions out of Oregon and defend against harmful federal actions?
Here’s Rogue Climate’s testimony toolkit port to help you through the entire process of writing and submitting your comment. (Open through Sept. 22nd.)

It’s up to us to hold our state accountable in ensuring that our communities thrive far into the future. Thank you.

Not another Factory Farm Expansion in Oregon!
Oregon’s Department of Agriculture (ODA) is considering yet another factory farm expansion in Central Oregon. More cows means a strain on our clean water supply – in a region of our state that is already prone to drought.

NO KINGS II

Picture
We’ll show that our collective voice is stronger than any single person's agenda across the country. We'll send an undeniable message to those in power and to all who seek hope.
No thrones. No crowns. No kings.
Stay tuned.

WE HAVE A VISION

There’s a new story being told with a vision for a fair, healthy and safe planet to live on… and it's ours to shout to the rafters! We can build a more just and climate-safe world for everyone. We’re the richest country in the history of civilization. We the people must stand up with courage, moral conviction, with science behind us, to use our resources to fight the evil powers that lie, ignore human rights and imperil our future. We were born to do this. THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER. It’s time to show up like never before.

It’s not up to each of us to do everything. But it is up to each of us to do something. Thanks for all you do!

THE BEATLES SAY IT BEST...
