RALLIES TODAY IN EUGENE - FIGHT THE TRUMP TAKEOVER! It’s time to hit the streets! Indivisible Eugene Springfield has organized two events in Eugene for today, Saturday, August 16th. Everybody in. Nobody out. See you there! Info below from Mobilize.us: Robert Reich is right when he says… “Some people tell me that I should be talking more about the climate crisis than the crisis of democracy. But you know something? We can’t deal with the climate crisis unless our democracy is saved… Why are we heading backward — precisely at a time when greenhouse gases have begun to cause environmental disaster? Because our democracy has been captured by large corporations, including the oil and gas industries, intent on turning back the clock on environmental protection. We cannot deal with the climate crisis unless our democracy is strengthened to reflect the will of the people rather than the profits of giant corporations. Democracy and the environment are not two separate issues, of which we must choose one. They are in many respects the same. But democracy is the foundation for all else. If we lose it — as we are in the process of doing — we can’t do anything, because there’s no “we.”” That’s where the grassroots come in! Ordinary people, mustering our courage to step up and save our democracy through individual and collective action! Our WorkWe must force our institutions off the sidelines to disrupt and defy Trump’s authoritarian takeover: elected officials, media, business leaders, law enforcement / military, civic organizations, faith communities, courts & lawyers, federal workers, schools & universities and beyond. Everyone is part of one or more of these organizations and can influence them. Let’s turn local action into national impact by chipping away at the civic pillars Trump needs to cement and hold on to his power. This is our collective work. You'll see exactly how if you read this inspiring essay about how the Danes refused to cooperate with the Nazis during WWII. We can do this. Resistance is spreading across the country. Hopefully you have seen the work of Indivisible’s superb series of three One Million Rising webinars. You can learn about the campaign & catch-up on the NoKings/Rise website. Over 250,000 people have tuned in and skilled-up, and are ready to take action. More than 1,300 Resistance Gatherings (“house parties) have happened since July 16th, with over 400 more scheduled! Here’s the Community Resistance Gathering Host Guide. This is grassroots organizing at its finest! After looking at the Toolkit, if you’d like some support in holding a Resistance Gathering, we can assist. Email us at [email protected]. Meanwhile, nationally, as movingly highlighted in the third webinar, ALL OF US HAVE BEEN CALLED TO THREE COLLECTIVE (relatively simple) ACTIONS to arrest the democratic backsliding:
Climate Policy - EugeneProgress on Eugene’s Climate Action Plan 2.0 Progress on Eugene’s Climate Action Plan 2.0 Thanks in no small part to the relentless advocacy by 350 Eugene, the City of Eugene has created new tools to track progress toward a low-carbon future and implementation of the Climate Action Plan 2.0.
Transportation is the largest source of Eugene’s greenhouse gas emissions. It’s noteworthy that the City and its partners are expanding clean mobility options, transitioning to cleaner fuels, and setting the stage for more multi-modal friendly neighborhoods. These efforts are cutting emissions and making active transportation (riding & walking) safer, more reliable, and accessible. 2024 highlights include:
Forest Defense is Climate DefenseThey’re Coming for Our Roadless Forests! They’re Coming for Our Roadless Forests! The proposed rollback by Trump of the 2011 Roadless Rule jeopardizes nearly 58M acres of undeveloped US Forest Service forestland in the backcountry, which is a third of our national forest system! These forests are intact because for 25 years they have been protected from major logging or oil-and-gas drilling operations. That’s all going to change if Trump has his way! ACTION: There will be a ridiculously short comment period coming up for these affected areas. Stay tuned for local organizing to maximize public comments! Let’s blitz the comment portal! Deep Roots Forest & Climate Convergence 2025 Deep Roots is a movement & momentum-building space designed to connect and give people the tools to take effective action. This year's Deep Roots Convergence will bring forest, climate, and social justice activists together to strengthen connections, share tools, and mobilize a strong grassroots resistance to the Trump Administration's industry-backed assault on public lands, forests, climate, and communities through workshops, trainings and tactics on how to fight back. For more details and to register, go to the Deep Roots page here.
