In cities across the country, we’re standing up to the tech bros & oil oligarchs who’ve staked their apocalyptic futures on a planet-wrecking technology (hyper-scale data centers & AI). It’s super bad for the environment and it might be game-over for our future! Americans are fed up with rubber-stamping governments that don’t protect our communities. You saw it at the Eugene City Council meeting last Monday, huge numbers of community members opposing data centers (and Amazon)! CITIZEN RESISTANCE = PEOPLE POWER. So many opportunities to join in the fight, right now when the stakes are so high. Please read on and take action! P.S. The local fight against data centers is not over, no matter what city officials say. WE NEED THE ROADLESS AREA CONSERVATION RULE(Photo credit: Environment America) Good news: The US Forest Service has extended the public comment 15 days to October 6th, 9 pm PT. (Thanks to our many calls and emails!) Still bad news: Trump wants to rescind the rule that protects nearly 45 million acres of undeveloped public backcountry forestland and allow extensive logging and oil-and-gas drilling. More comments are needed! Our goal is ONE MILLION! You can type your unique comment directly into the US Forest Service comment portal or attach a text file with your comment. Here’s the link. You may also use the comment tools that Cascadia Wildlands, Oregon Wild and / or Saveroadlessforests.com created. IMPORTANT: Key talking points can be found here. These messages come from the National Forest Coalition and are an excellent resource. Thank you! HOME ENERGY SCORE A BASELINE TO HELP HOME BUYERS: SPEAK OUTPUBLIC HEARING - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST 5:30 PM - EUGENE CITY HALL 500 E 4TH AVE. This Home Energy Score public hearing is the last hurdle before a council vote later this fall. (We are hearing that NW Natural and the Realtors are mobilizing against us.) Bring your friends and show support! WEAR RED. This policy requires single family homes to get a home energy score audit at the time of sale so home buyers have accurate info about the homes’ energy use and utility costs. It includes info about EWEB and Energy Trust of Oregon incentives. Statistics show that home-owners are most likely to make big improvements to their homes within the first year of purchase, and these home energy scores are critical to driving the transition to climate-friendly heat pumps and other energy efficient electric appliances. Find a testimony guide with all of the information here. Because it's a public hearing (rather than a normal council meeting), you can testify in person or remotely. If you plan on attending, please RSVP here. Thank you! This is a small but momentum-building step to do more to meet our climate goals!
